At what age would you let your children watch these shows?

this is a survey for my class based on the influence television has on children. i would like to know what age parents feel is appropriate for children to watch the following shows:

-Family Guy

-The Simpsons

-American Dad

-South Park

-Mad TV

also, do you feel that the standard age set by the TV V-chip is appropriate for these shows (i.e. TV-14, TV-MA)?

(if you dont know what any one of the shows is about, plz take the time to look it up.)

I think that the maturity of the child should have relevance to this decision. I have seen many 14 year olds that act,understand, comprehend and behave worse than a 7 year old. I also feel that the parents should be teaching their children right from wrong, the values they want to emphasize, etc. Too many parents these days use the TV as the babysitter and then we get children who believe what they see and act it out because GUIDANCE and EDUCATION was not provided by the parents. I personally watch all the above shows and have no problem allowing younger children to watch them as long as I feel they are mature enough to understand what they are seeing and that as a parent, I take the time to answer questions and explain things that need explaining. Of course these shows are geared toward adults for the most part and some content is very questionable but it is again the PARENTS, not the V-Chip's job to decide if it is right to watch.

The Simpsons is TV PG (LV)

American Dad is TV14 (DLV)

Family Guy is TV14 (DSLV)

South Park is TV14 (L) - syndicated episodes and TVMA (LV) - current episodes

MadTV is TV14

According to what they stand for, I agree with how they are rated but will use MY OWN judgment, not theirs to determine if my children are MATURE enough, not OLD enough to watch the shows.

when they are 12, 13 or 14 thats when i started watching them if you have tivo record them and watch them first
I would let them watch it as soon as they were born.. Oh no they heard a bad word, they are gonna grow up and have slaves in their basement!

it is not age that matter it is when you think that they can mentally handle what is going on in the shows
wudnt care 2 much but american dad is a stupid show anyways

i dont know. I would trust my child enough to not requote somethings from the shows, but I would have to say like 7 or 8.

they will be hearing much worse at school, the shows are pretty much harmless.
i watched the simpsons with my parents at age 7, maybe 6. south park, mm.. not so much for little kids. maybe 10 or older. family guy, american dad, and the simpsons though, i think i pretty harmless. like i said, i watched the simpsons very young, and i didn't turn out corrupt
I think the standard age is appropriate.

Anyways, I started watching those shows in middle school (12-13-ish).
well i startd wacthing those at llike 12,,so im goin wit dat
13-15 yeah it fits most on the standard age
1 month old....im serious ill let them watch sopranos with me
my kids watch them now....people might think i am wrong for letting them though...but why have them do it and lie when you can just know when they do...we are very open with our kids and want them to be able to come to us with their questions....
i think at least 11 or 12. they have a lot of adult humor and innapropriate refrences.

i am not familiar with family guy and american dad---the others i would say 14----altho if u are a christian family i wouldn't suggest them at all---i don't think u are too into church or u would know the answer

I watch those shows right now. I watch American Dad and Family Guy. The rest of those shows are gay especially South Park.
at the age where they can understand that what they are watching is TV and definatly not the way to act in real life. and they have to know that if they behave badly because of these shows they cant watch them anymore!
11-12ish.....it doesnt matter anyway, they learn things in skool that arent taught in books waaaay b4 they r 11 or 12
